LASIK is a way to correct your vision with surgery. LASIK or Lasik (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a type of refractive surgery for correcting myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. This method utilizes a highly focused laser designed to heal refractive errors, improve vision, and reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses.
LASIK is performed by ophthalmologists using a laser. That is why it is also known as Laser Eye Surgery. LASIK eye surgery is a remedy that reshapes the cornea in order to make clear vision.
The LASIK refractive eye surgery method can make well myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, and cut patients’ dependency on contact lenses and eye glasses. This reshaping of the cornea improves the eye’s focusing power and enhances patients’ visual sharpnes. LASIK Eye Surgery is performed in three steps. The first step is to create a flap of corneal tissue. The second step is remodeling of the cornea under the flap with the laser. Finally, the flap is shifted.
There are three types of refractive errors:
Myopia, also called nearsightedness or shortsightedness is a refractive defect of the eye in which distant objects appear blurred. If you comes under myopic means nearsighted, you are unable to see distant objects clearly.
Hyperopia, also known as farsightedness, longsightedness or hypermetropia, where you see things in the distance better than very close things means the opposite of myopia.
Astigmatism, a condition in which the surface of the cornea is not spherical such as bends or warps, causes a blurred image to be received at the retina.
Laser Eye Surgery can help correct these difficulties by utilising a laser to reshape the cornea, correcting its “refractive” imperfections, thereby improving vision.
